The Portable Health Clinic (PHC) Maternal Health Pilot Program officially started on March, 2026, following the successful completion of the PHC-MCH training in Sudan.
The pilot focuses on bringing essential maternal healthcare closer to pregnant women, including antenatal assessment, monitoring of pregnancy-related risks, ultrasound support, digital health records, and access to doctors through remote consultation.
The initiative builds on the collaborative work of Kyushu University, Grameen Bangladesh, Rocinantes, and local healthcare partners in Sudan, with contributions from Prof. Rafiqul Islam Maruf and Dr. Naoyuki Kawahara. The PHC approach is designed to strengthen local healthcare capacity and improve access to quality care in underserved communities.
The launch marks an important transition from training to field-level implementation, bringing the vision of Japan–Bangladesh–Sudan cooperation for better maternal health into practice.
